Фотозвіт: зустріч із американськими письменниками

1 грудня 2015 року у КНЛУ відбулася зустріч із сучасними американськими письменниками та представником посольства США в Україні. Дякуємо організаторам заходу за співпрацю, чудовим авторам за цікавий діалог і студентам за небайдужість до літературного процесу і продумані та доречні запитання.

Фотозвіт: незвичне заняття курсу "Схід на Заході, Захід на Сході"

10 листопада 2015 чергове заняття з курсу «Схід на Заході, Захід на Сході: сучасна література в світлі антропологічної парадигми» (керівник - доц. Юрчук О.О.) для студентів 4 курсу факультету сходознавства пройшло в «Чайному клубі». Тема заняття - «Гастрономічний код в сучасній літературі» - сприяла вибору місця проведення. Заняття супроводжувалось дегустацією смачного китайського чаю і презентаціями з тем «Гастрономічний код і естетичний смак в романі Мастера Ченя "Дегустатор"» (підготували Мотрич К. і Стрижак О.) і «Топос Лондона. Життя в Європі очима китаянки в романі Го Сяолу "Короткий китайсько-англійський словник коханців"» (підготували Ричек О. і Старосвістський С.)

Студенти поділилися своїми враженнями:

«Чай… мій улюблений напій…скільки приємних спогадів з дитинства… Зараз мені вже 21 рік, і минулий рік я прожила в Китаї. Там я, звісно, куштувала справжній чай, а не той, що продають у нас в пакетиках. Китай… далека і, для нас, екзотична країна, де все по-іншому! Але повернемось до чаю. Отже, смак спочатку - м’який, а потім – терпкий…Як життя». (Мотрич К.)

«Чайна церемонія. Спочатку нам коротко розповіли про чай, який ми будемо пити, "Красуня під місячним сяйвом". Чай підігрівався на підставці зі свічкою. Дівчина повільними рухами розливала його в мініатюрний китайський посуд і розповідала про спосіб заварювання й смакування. Як виявилось, на знак особливої вдячності за смачний напій його треба пити з присьорбуванням». (Костюченко Л.)

«Обстановка чайного клубу: екзотичний інтер’єр, фігурка Будди зі свічкою і бамбуковий декор на стінах, - перенесли мене в інший світ. Я поринула в світ Сходу, його культуру. Це були незабутні нові враженння. Мене вразила церемонія чаювання: від заварювання чаю до його дегустації. Заняття було приємним і незвичним. У такій атмосфері обговорювати літературу набагато приємніше, ніж сидячи в аудиторії. Кожний ковток чаю сприяв більш відкритому спілкуванню, обговоренню і сприйняттю інформації». (Куприк П.)

Jeffrey Brown is author of the recent poetry collection, “The News” (2015), which draws on his work over a quarter of a century as a correspondent and producer for the PBS NewsHour, the nightly news program for public television in the United States. He currently serves as Senior Correspondent and Chief Arts Correspondent for the program and as host of Art Beat, the NewsHour’s arts and culture blog. As a co-anchor and moderator he has interviewed numerous leading American and international newsmakers, moderated studio discussions on a vast array of topics, and reported from across the United States and around the globe. Elliot Ackerman is the author of the novel Green on Blue (Scribner, 2015) and the forthcoming novel Dark at the Crossing (Knopf, 2017). Lea Carpenter's novel, Eleven Days (Knopf, June 2013), tells the story of America’s special operations forces through the story of an officer who goes missing off a mission the same night as the bin Laden raid, 2nd May 2011, and the story of his mother, who waits for news. The book’s title is a reference to the end of The Iliad, and to Achilles’s decision to stand down his army for eleven days. The novel was a finalist for the Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize, and long-listed for the Bailey’s. The New York Times’s Michiko Kakutani said the novel attested to the “debut of an extraordinarily gifted writer." Carpenter worked in literary publishing for ten years—as a Founding editor at Francis Ford Coppola’s Zoetrope; a founding editor of Penguin’s Lives series of short biographies, and later as Deputy Publisher of The Paris Review. She is working on her second novel, set in the Intelligence Community. She graduated summa cum laude from Princeton and has an MBA from Harvard. Her 2003 Harvard University Commencement Speech, “Auden and the Little Things,” addressed the importance of poetry in wartime.

Joan Naviyuk Kane is the author of The Cormorant Hunter’s Wife and Hyperboreal. She has received a Whiting Writer’s Award, the Donald Hall Prize in Poetry, the USA Projects Creative Vision Award, an American Book Award, the Alaska Literary Award, and fellowships from the Rasmuson Foundation, Alaska State Council on the Arts, Alaska Arts and Cultures Foundation, the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation and the School for Advanced Research. Kane graduated from Harvard College, where she was a Harvard National Scholar, and Columbia University’s School of the Arts, where she was the recipient of a graduate Writing Fellowship. Inupiaq with family from King Island and Mary’s Igloo, she raises her children in Anchorage, Alaska, and is a faculty mentor with the low-residency MFA program at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Kelly Bedeian received a degree in Linguistics from the University of Iowa, after which she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine from 1996-1998. Kelly went on to work on a variety of professional development and exchange programs as a Program Manager at CONNECT/US-RUSSIA, a non-profit organization based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 2001 Kelly returned to life overseas, working with the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) first as a Program Manager for the Community Connections program then later in a dual role as the Country Manager for the IREX/Armenia office and the Regional Manager for the Internet Access and Training Program in the Caucasus Region. Kelly joined the IWP staff in 2004 where she currently works as Program Coordinator for overseas programs.

Зустріч із письменником: Андрій Любка

Запрошуємо студентів КНЛУ та усіх охочих на зустріч з Андрієм Любкою, що відбудеться 3 листопада 2015 року о 14.00 за адресою вул. Лабораторна 5/17 (корпус 3, конференц-зал). Зустріч буде присвячено презентації та обговоренню нового роману письменника - "Карбід".

За словами автора, ця книга особлива своєю несхожістю на все, що він писав раніше. «За жанром «Карбід» – пригодницький роман, дія якого відбувається у 2015 році, – говорить Андрій, – а мотор сюжету – розповідь про 100 способів контрабанди».

Події в романі розгортаються впродовж паркого й тривожного літа, коли у вигаданому містечку Ведмедів група ентузіастів вирішує збудувати Фонтан Єдності з Європою. Навіщо їм фонтан, чому за ними в’язниця плаче і за скільки в Україні можна придбати людську нирку – про все це автор пише з гумором і добірним песимізмом. У цій книжці є сливовиця, рибалки, гробар, сімнадцять розділів, спокуслива й хтива жінка, кілька вбивць, корумпований мер, геніальна ідея, Тиса і безнадія. Натомість у ній немає шенґенських віз, відповідей на всі запитання, кулінарних рецептів і порад, як розбагатіти.

За словами Святослава Померанцева, президента Міжнародної літературної корпорації MERIDIAN CZERNOWITZ: «авантюрний роман Любки карколомний і кумедний, сюжет захоплює, але уважного читача може здивувати інше: за пригодами вигаданих персонажів впізнаються реальні контрабандні схеми, що діють на українських кордонах. Бандити, людські органи, наркотики – все це описано настільки детально, що будь-який слідчий чи журналіст може у кримінальних справах і статтях цитувати цей роман цілими абзацами» (інформація з сайту видавництва Книги-ХХІ).

Call for Papers: International Conference in Literary Studies 'Poetics of Home/House'

Dear colleagues!

On occasion of its 20th anniversary, Professor V. Fesenko Chair of Theory and History of World Literature, Kyiv National Linguistic University announces call for papers to be presented at the International Conference in Literary Studies 'Poetics of Home/House' to be held at the Kyiv National Linguistic University on 17-18 March 2016.

The concept of ‘home’ has always been basic for human communities as a transhistorical constant. In Satya Mohanti’s words, “all human beings require warmth, rest, nourishment and shelter”. These needs can best be satisfied by ‘home’, and the fact that this truth is always culturally specific and variably instantiated is no argument against is universal validity. It is no wonder, therefore, that ‘home’ has figured prominently in literature throughout its history as a fundamental element of human life representing stability, shelter, protection, and family bliss, or, on the contrary, repression, stifling atmosphere, conservatism, and philistinism. In late 20th – early 21st cc. marked by global migration and deterritorialization processes, as well as the emergence of extensive diasporic communities, the concept of ‘home’ became subject to dramatic metamorphoses. We are interested in the ways ‘home’/’house’ has been (re)conceptualized over centuries (and over the past decades) in various cultures and literatures.

Therefore, we invite papers exploring a multiplicity of approaches to the concept of ‘home’ in national literatures at different stages of their development. Proposals for interdisciplinary and/or multidisciplinary papers are especially welcome. Possible subjects for discussion may include, but are by no means limited to the following:

• Phenomenon of home in cultural-historical paradigm

• Imagological dimensions of ‘home’

• Poetics of home: intermedial aspect (the architecture of text, ‘home’ in film and on television, in photography and painting, etc.)

• Rhetorics of home

• Semiotics of home

• Phenomenology of home

• Values ​​of home. ‘The feeling of home’ as a worldview landmark

• Ideology of home

• Sociological dimensions of home

• Anthropology of home

• Home vs. Universe: anthropo-cosmological dimension

The conference will result in selected papers’ publication in the journal Contemporary Literary Studies (Issue 13, 2016).

15 жовтня,о 17 годині в Американському домі відбудеться лекція  доктора філологічних наук, професора Наталі Олександрівни Висоцької " 'The Truth Is We are All Connected': Arthur Miller at 100" ("Істина в тому, що ми всі з'єднані між собою...": Артур Міллер у ХХІ столітті).

Наталія Висоцька – кандидат наук, професор, завідувач кафедри Теорії та історії світової літератури, Київського національного лінгвістичного університету. Професор Наталія Висоцька отримала вчену ступінь з американської літератури в Інституті літератури Національної академії наук України (1998). Її науковий інтерес охоплює: афроамериканську літературу в контексті драми афроамериканців; мульти / транс-культурологізм в американській літературі; театр та драма в США. Основні публікації: Концепція мультикультуралізму в контексті сучасної історії літератури США, 2012 (українською мовою); Єдність множинного. Кінець 20го- початок 21го ст.
